How Do You Know Your Partner Isn't Secretly Acting Out?
One of the most common questions I get asked when working with wives is this: "My partner says he's not looking at porn/seeing other women/etc. anymore, but how can I trust him?" After all, if your partner was acting out secretly in the past, who's to say he's not still doing it?
It's easier to tell if an addict is drinking or doing drugs again. You'll see tell tale charges in your bank account and maybe even notice alcohol on your partner's breath. But sex addiction is tricky because things like porn are so easy to access, and they don't leave the same physical evidence behind.
In this video, I address the importance of "second-order change" to restoring trust in a relationship affected by sex addiction. Second-order change is also critical for long-term sobriety, so it's an important concept to understand early on in the recovery process.
